Tuesday 4th April - Sunday 9th April 2017
The 23rd anniversary of the NZCT National Club Cricket Championships is once again being held at Cornwall Cricket Club from Tuesday April 4th to Sunday April 9th 2017.
The 23rd edition will feature Mount Maunganui (Northern Districts), United (Central Districts), Eastern Suburbs (Wellington), Old Boys Collegians (Canterbury), Takapuna (Auckland) and Albion (Otago).
This will be our 8th appearance at the National Club Championships for Easts previously attending in 1995, 2002, 2003, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. Last year we won the title of National Club Champions for the first time and want to repeat the process this year.
The Easts players selected to participate are Jack Anderson, Matt Ansell, Fraser Colson, Peter Connell, Lance Dry (c), Andrew Fullerton-Smith Luke Georgeson, Jamie Gibson, Lauchie Johns, Ricky Joseph, Jimad Khan, Ben Orton, James Price and Jed Wiggins.
GO THE MIGHTY EASTS !!!!!
21 years and seven attempts and finally Eastern Suburbs can claim to be National Club Champions.
As Wellington 50-over champions we won our first national trophy, after the Sunday final against Canterbury club St Albans was washed out. Only 24 overs were possible in the decider at Auckland’s Cornwall Park, with St Albans 74-4 when play was called off.
Easts beat St Albans the previous day in their last round robin match and that proved to be vital as then both teams had 4 wins from 5 round robin games. However Easts had the better net run rate at the start of the final.
Easts’ Jamie Gibson was named overall Player of the Tournament.
Congratulations to all players in the team & management!
56 Successful Defences
"The Cook Shield, which was awarded for winning the Wellington’s mens senior championship for 70 years till 1995 but was discontinued when Wellington amalgamated with Hutt Valley, has been dusted off and given a new lease of life.
The competition will be run much like rugby’s Ranfurly Shield with clubs having to beat the holders outright over two days to win it.
As defending Pearce Cup two-day champions, Eastern Suburbs will hold the shield initially, with Taita getting the first challenge when the two teams clash at Fraser Park over the next two weekends - 29 Nov & 6 Dec 2008.
The trophy will be up for grabs for every match and the holders play, home or away."
